Adam Hunter (30-10-1), Butler alum, enters his third year at the helm of the Butler Women’s Soccer Program. Hunter comes to Butler with an experienced background in Butler Community College, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC), and coaching women’s soccer.
In Hunter’s second season as the Grizzlies’ head coach, the team continued to be one of the top community college programs in the country. The team finished the year with a final record of 16-5-0 (10-2-0) and an NJCAA National Ranking as high as #12. The Grizzlies were also ranked as high as #11 in the NSCAA National Polls. Butler Soccer was also able to reach the NJCAA Region VI Semi-Finals for a seventh consecutive year. For all the success that the team achieved in 2008, several players were honored with post-season accolades. Seven players, most in the conference, were named KJCCC All-Conference and six players named NJCAA All-Region VI. In addition, the Grizzlies also placed a conference best eight players as KJCCC Academic All-Conference while winning the KJCCC Academic Conference Championship for having conference leading 3.13 GPA. The 2008 squad also performed well enough to be named NSCAA and NJCAA Academic Team of the Year.
In his first season at Butler, the team finished with a record of 14-5-1 (9-1-0). This was good enough for second place in the ever improving KJCCC Conference. The Grizzlies were able to advance to the NJCAA Region VI Semi-Finals, an accomplishment that Coach Hunter has never failed to achieve. Coach Hunter’s 2007 squad continued to carry on the rich tradition of Butler Soccer. The squad included the KJCCC Player and Freshman of the Year and NJCAA First Team All-American Katy Rodriguez. The team also saw five players make KJCCC All-Conference and four players named NJCAA All-Region VI. Butler’s success reached beyond the playing field and into the classroom as well. The 2007-08 Grizzlies, team GPA 3.21, were honored as NSCAA and NJCAA Academic Team of the Year while five members were honored as NJCAA Academic All-Americans and four were named to the KJCCC Academic All-Conference.
Prior to Hunter’s return to Butler CC he was the Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Dodge City High School. His 2000 team has been the only men’s team able to capture a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship for DCHS Soccer and his women’s team won a stretch of four consecutive WAC Championships from 2001-2004. Hunter still holds the school record for most wins at Dodge City High School.
From 2001-04 Hunter was the first ever men’s and women’s soccer coach at Dodge City Community College (DCCC). He was able to lift the women’s program to an immediate contender in the KJCCC. In just four years, Hunter led the Lady Conquistadors to the NJCAA Region-VI Championship match twice. In 2004, Hunter was named the Region VI Co-Coach of the Year along with former Butler Coach Amy Estes. Hunter still holds the school record for most wins at Dodge City Community College.
Butler Athletic Director, Todd Carter had the following to say, “We’re excited with Coach Hunter’s hire. We think Adam is going to bring the hard work and commitment that has come to represent Butler athletics, and that he’ll continue the excellence of our soccer program.” Carter said, “he’s a graduate of Butler, a local guy, whose knowledge of the state and the area will help immensely with recruiting. Along with his coaching experience, he’s a great fit for the Butler family.”
Coach Hunter holds his NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and is a member of the Kansas Olympic Development Program. Coach Hunter married Mica Moore in 1998 and they have three daughters: Brooklyn, London, and Milan.
