The Butler Community College Spirit Squad is a visible reminder of the pride and tradition that encompass Grizzly athletics. It is our primary goal to help spark and maintain a high level of excitement in our fans and ultimately show our support to the other athletes here at Butler. We aspire to be leaders both on the court and field, in the classroom, and throughout the community of cheer squads in the Jayhawk Conference.
Members of the spirit squad are dedicated student athletes who pass a minimum of 12 hours each semester and maintain a 2.0 grade point average. We spend anywhere from 6-9 hours a week in practices, tumbling classes, and weight room workouts during the fall and spring semesters in preparation for games and when a competition or performance is nearing that we plan to attend, that increases significantly. Of course this is in addition to our football and basketball cheering schedule! We attend NCA collegiate camp and we do prepare during the summer for that. Last year we attended camp at K-State, competed against several other Jayhawk Conference squads and came home with multiple tropies. Though we love the accolades, the reason we exist is to cheer in front of our crowd and for our sports teams. One other great experience we share is the common goal of a community service project.
The Spirit Squad looks for teammates who truly enjoy the sport of cheerleading and everything that means at Butler
-Cheering for National Championship teams
-Attending football and basketball games at home, across Kansas and oftentimes across the country
-Books and tuition scholarship
-Forming lasting friendships with squad members
-Advancing cheer skills through paid tumbling classes, stunt workshops, summer camp, etc... which enable squad members to cheer at the next level if they so desire
-Working toward an academic goal whether it be an Associates degree or advancement to a 4-year school
-Developing character and moral standards to help you both in our performance arena as well as the arena of life
