The Butler Spirit Squad consists of up to 18 members, usually 9 females and 9 males.

Tryouts for 2010 will be conducted as follows:

Though not mandatory, candidates may attend the following optional open practices:

Sunday January 17, 4-6pm
Sunday February 7, 4-6pm
Sunday February 21, 4-6pm
Sunday March 14, 4-6pm
Sunday March 28, 4-6pm

The purpose of these open practices is to allow candidates insight into the program as well as daily practice routines. They will also be allowed to showcase and work on their jumps, tumbling and stunting skills. Release forms are necessary and are available for download on our webpage.  Attendance of open practices is not required and attending an open practice does not qualify candidates for call-backs. Open practices are open to the public and are held at the Champions Training Center on the El Dorado campus.

Candidates MUST attend at least one of the following tryout clinics:

Sunday April 18, 4-7pm
Sunday April 25, 4-7pm

Tryout material will be taught during these clinics and participants will demonstrate their ability to learn choreographed material as well as technical skills. Tryout clinics are held at the Champions Training Center on the El Dorado campus and are CLOSED to parents, friends and spectators.

Call backs will be Sunday May 2 from 2-7pm.

Call-backs are by invitation only, candidates are chosen from earlier tryout sessions or by special invitation. There is no formal panel of judges. Decision will be made by the coach with advice from the team captains as needed. Decisions will be based on performance at open practices, clinics and final call-backs. Candidates are evaluated on their level of potential to acquire the skills needed to be a collegiate level cheerleader and commitment to the team and cheering at games and competitions.  A copy of the sample score-sheet is available for download on our webpage.   Call-backs are held at the Champions Training Center on the El Dorado campus and are CLOSED to the public.

Videos

Approval for video tryouts must be given from the coach prior to April 25. Videos must be received before April 25 to be considered and should include a minimum of 2 tumbling skills (running or standing), 3 jumps, a cheer and 2 stunts (co-ed stunts preferred). Contact the coach prior to sending video to verify elements needed and to get approval. You will not be penalized if travel/schedule does not allow for a visit during open practices or clinics however after your video is evaluated, IF INVITED you MUST attend the call-backs to be eligible for the team or arrange a private tryout before call-backs.
